The Iron Curtain separated Europe into the groups. Warsaw Pact countries to the east of the Iron Curtain are shaded red; NATO members to the west of it — blue. But some comparisons are even more drastic.

The Iron Curtain separated the Eastern Bloc and the West from the Second World War until the end of the Cold War, all along representing the Soviet Union's attempt to shield itself and allies from a direct contact with the West, especially NATO members.
The Fall of the Iron Curtain. During the Cold War days between Soviet Union & USA, the countries aligned with USSR were known as the Iron Curtain Countries. When all are free, then we can look forward to that day when this city will be joined as one and this country and this great Continent of Europe in a peaceful and hopeful globe.
